Chilifan

I did a free assessment of my points on some lawyer site and guess what, I failed! Pretty strange when I pass easily every other time. But for a fee of $25 US I can get a detailed report and for $200 I could see if I qualify as a provincial nominee. Right *rolls eyes* This is a reminder guys, never enlist a lawyer; you can do it just fine yourself. All they want is your money.

I have looked at NUMEROUS websites on lawyers myself, and it seems that they want to charge outragous fees for things that are free online (i.e. the application kits, assessment tools). Glad to know you did not fall for their '"tricks" Chilifan. I have read reviews in another forum online that told all sorts of horror stories about one specific law firm. If I find the name of it, I will post it here. I think it started with a P... darn I wish I could remember. I will find it and post here. There are some legit lawyers out there, but this is definitely one to stay away from.

Protech...that's the name of that firm... Protech. I have read all sorts of horrible things about them in other forums... so if you choose to to use these guys... buyer beware. Some of the things people have complained about are no longer receiving emails or responses once they payment has been processed, rejected applications after being told they would be accepted (and payment received), and packet information getting jumbled (one instance where a cover letter went on the application of a completely different person). These are the horror stories I have heard. Those of us who choose to apply ourselves can expect to have lengthy application times and sometimes returned applications for imcomplete requirements, but at least we will be $4-5K richer! For anyone looking to hire an immigration lawyer... research, research, research! The most expensive (or cheapest) lawyer is not always the best.

Can anyone recommend me a good Canadian immigration book?
