Hi! I really hope this forums works because I want to make lots of new friends before arriving to Canada!

Anyone interested? :)

Sure, I think that would be a good function for these fora.

Ha! Good one. Well I wouldn't have minded staying if I hadn't met the love of my life some time ago and he happens to live in Canada. I finish school first so I'm making the move. It's really the only thing that makes sense; can't beat the insurance, they're pretty environmentally-conscious and school is a lot cheaper so I won't have to break the bank when it's my kids' turn. I really like it there.

So, you are immigrating under the family class? If you weren't I'd call you crazy.

Nah, we're not hitched or anything so it's skilled worker for me.

If you are getting married in a few months, than I would recommend sticking with family class. Then, you can stay in Canada while you are waiting for approval.

We're not (as far as I know unless the boy has something up his sleeve) but next year I plan to do the SWAP work permit thing so I can go for 6 months and then I can visit for 6 months if I have enough money. So that should kill most of the wait time for me.

Kyle,

I am considering using the Family Class method of immigrating instead of the Skilled Workers Class. (It is proving to be more difficult convincing a Canadian company to hire a foreign worker than originally anticipated, even with a Bachelor's Degree.) Do you know what the required income is for the sponsor? I understand that it varies based on the number of individuals being sponsored. I will be immigrating with my son, and my sponsor also has a child, already Canadian citizen, from a previous relationship. (I have read all the guides and application forms to be filled out and I noticed that his child will be taken into consideration as well.)
Also, do you know the current estimated processing time for this application, and will I be able to begin working prior to the approval of the application (without the need of a work permit)?

Thanks for the help.
